-Mark Sanford's win in May may have helped pave the other way for politicians like Anthony Weiner and Eliot Spitzer to make comebacks from sex scandals but don't look for John Edwards to be added to that list any time soon. Only 15% of North Carolina voters have a favorable opinion of him to 67% with a negative one, numbers that have barely improved from a year ago when he was at 11/73. Only 19% of voters say would be open to ever electing him to office again, while 67% rule out the possibility of voting for him in the future.
-The New York Times has been in the news a lot recently in North Carolina because of its recent editorial about politics in the state, and voters are divided sharply on party lines when it comes to their opinions about the paper. Overall 35% see it favorably, 33% have an unfavorable opinion, and 32% don't have one either way. But Democrats give it a 51/13 rating, while Republicans are almost the exact opposite at 13/57. This would be interesting to test in other states to see if that divide is North Carolina specific because of the editorial or something more broad.
-North Carolinians are not happy with the Supreme Court for overturning parts of the Voting Rights Act. 52% of voters in the state say they oppose the Court's decision compared to only 22% who support it. There's bipartisan displeasure with Democrats (14/62), Republicans (25/42), and independents (34/48) all disagreeing with the ruling. Overall North Carolinians express 49/23 support for the VRA.
-Finally we polled on some lighter topics. Miley Cyrus is no match for the Star Spangled Banner- just 3% of voters support changing the national anthem to 'Party in the USA,' compared to 92% who are opposed.
Despite the novel storm fighting techniques proposed by #Sharknado, only 13% of voters would support 50 million dollars in federal money to research the effectiveness of dissipating tornadoes by throwing bombs into them, compared to 66% opposed.
And there's little sympathy for Los Angeles' plight from the movie- just 11% of voters support federal aid to California for #Sharknado recovery with 55% opposed.
