Raleigh,
N.C. –
A poll
conducted over the weekend shows Tim Kaine ahead of George Allen by one point
for Senate (47-46).  This poll shows an
increase in favoritism to Kaine, who was tied with Allen for Senate in August
(46-46).  George Allen’s favorability has
decreased over the month by two points, down 41 from 43.  However, opinions of Tim Kaine have also
decreased from 45 to 42.

This will be
a neck-and-neck race until election day.
Kaine takes 89% of the Democratic vote, while Allen takes 89% of the
Republican vote.  53% of men back George
Allen, while 52% of women support Tim Kaine.
Those who identify as somewhat liberal (86%) or very liberal (82%) back
Kaine.  George Allen is supported by 80%
of those who are very conservative and 79% of those who identify as somewhat conservative.  Kaine does take a large portion of the
African-American vote, pulling in 82%.

“This race
hasn’t really moved a bit in two years and there’s not much reason to think
that it will in the next seven weeks either,” said Dean Debnam, President of
Public Policy Polling. “More than likely someone is going to end up winning
this one by a point or two.”

Virginia
voters will vote in November on a proposed constitutional amendment on eminent
domain.  This amendment is supported with
43% of likely voters in favor and 19% against.
38% of women and 48% of men are for the Eminent Domain Amendment.  However, 38% of likely voters are unsure of
this change to the constitution.

Virginians
show loyalty to their local professional sports teams.  28% of those polled stated their favorite NFL
football team is Washington D.C.’s Redskins.
When it comes to their favorite MLB baseball team, the Washington
Nationals are supported by 19% of those polled.

PPP surveyed 1,021 likely
Virginia voters, from September 13 to 16. The margin of error for the survey is
+/-3.1%. This poll was not paid for or authorized by any campaign or political
organization. PPP surveys are conducted through automated telephone interviews.
