Coloradans miss Tebow

Raleigh, N.C. –
Not even 4-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning can cure Colorado of Tebow-mania.  Coloradans have a more favorable view of Tim Tebow, the former Denver Broncos quarterback who was traded to the New York Jets this offseason, than newly acquired Broncos quarterback Manning. Tebow, who led the Broncos to the second round of the playoffs last year, has a 68% favorability rating to Manning’s 57%.

But Colorado voters’ adoration for Tebow doesn’t cloud their judgment when it comes to whom they’d rather have under center. Coloradans would rather have former Super Bowl MVP Manning at the helm than Tebow 53-21.

Colorado voters’ lack of confidence in Tebow’s on-field performance suggests their reverence for the devoutly Christian quarterback is mostly due to his personal character and beliefs. And no group of voters reveres Tebow more than the very conservative. 85% of very conservative voters have a favorable opinion of Tebow to just 38% of very liberal voters. Only 3% of very conservative voters have unfavorable opinion of Tebow to 42% of very liberal voters.

Denver is the most favorably viewed city in the state with a whopping 72% favorability rating. But, like Tebow, it is not popular with everyone. While 87% of Democrats have a favorable view of the capital city, just 59% of Republicans feel the same way.

There’s an even wider split with uber-liberal college town Boulder. 74% of Democrats have a favorable opinion of the town to just 23% of Republicans. The town, which is the second-most popular with Democrats, has an overall favorability rating of 46%.

On the Republican side, Colorado Springs and Grand Junction are the most popular. 69% of state Republican voters have a favorable view of Colorado Springs to 40% of state Democrats. 67% of Republicans have a favorable view of Grand Junction to 43% of Democrats.

PPP surveyed 799 Colorado voters from June 14th to June 17th. The margin of error for the survey is +/-3.5%. This poll was not paid for or authorized by any campaign or political organization. PPP surveys are conducted through automated telephone interviews.
