Raleigh, N.C.-
PPP’s latest poll of Wyoming finds
that Republicans are in no danger of forfeiting the state’s three electoral
college votes anytime soon. Hillary Clinton trails every major Republican
candidate for President by at least 20%, including a 56% to 28% deficit against
Chris Christie. Rand Paul is the top choice of GOP voters in the state to be
their 2016 nominee with 19% to 14% for Christie, 13% for Jeb Bush, and 11% for
Paul Ryan with everyone else in single digits.

On an
issue-by-issue basis, however, Wyomingites are siding more and more with the
Democrats. 55% of Wyoming voters support background checks for all guns,
compared to just 33% who are opposed. And though only 32% of respondents are in
support of same-sex marriage, 64% support either legalization of marriage or
civil unions for same-sex couples.

“Wyoming
has the highest level of gun ownership in the country,” said Dean Debnam, President
of Public Policy Polling. “And voters there across party lines still strongly
support expanded background checks for gun purchases.”

In non-political news, Wyoming sports fans are more likely to be fans of Colorado
teams than any others, with 43% picking the Rockies and 50% picking the Broncos
as their favorite baseball and football team respectively. 54% of Wyomingites
have a favorable opinion of former Vice President Dick Cheney, and an equal
number would accept a hunting invitation from him, despite his mishap in 2006.
Living up to the name “The Cowboy State”, 55% of Wyoming residents said that
they owned a cowboy hat, including 61% of men and 50% of women.

Finally, though Wyoming has recently gained notoriety for having just two
working escalators in the entire state, almost all respondents, 96%, claim to
have ridden one. Furthermore, a full 49% of Wyomingites do not want any more
escalators in their state, compared to jut 14% who do.

PPP surveyed 1,203 registered voters between July 19-21,
2013, including 780 Republican primary voters. The margin of error was +/- 2.8%
statewide and +/- 3.5% for the primary. This poll was not authorized or paid
for by any campaign or political organization. PPP’s surveys are conducted
through automated telephone interviews.
