You should ask for favorability of unions. Either in general or specific (UAW, MEA, etc). Also ask if they'd like to see an increase in the gas tax if it meant more spending on roads and highways, since that's likely to come up in the next legislature. Please do not list Hoekstra in the 2014 Senate Republican primary. Thanks for polling MI!

Ryan Fissel

I'd like to see you test Virg Bernero against Snyder in the governors race. Also, does Snyder's decision to sign the union busting bill today affect whether or not people will vote for him in 2014.

Definitley test Gretchen Whitmer and Gary Peters against Snyder.

Capers Philip

2014 Michigan Governor's Election

Rick Snyder (R) vs. Gary Peters (D)
Rick Snyder (R) vs. Virg Bernero (D)
Rick Snyder (R) vs. Gretchen Whitmer
Rick Snyder (R) vs. Carl Levin

Other questions:
1. Should Carl Levin retire?
2.Would you support a recall of Rick Snyder?

Philip D.

I'd love to see polling on gay marriage in Michigan. A poll conducted last month showed a large percentage of the state favorite in favor.

Just for fun, run Michael Moore against Rick Snyder...

I'd ask if people actually know what "Right-to-work" legislation actually means (no closed-shop agreements between Unions and buisness). It'd be interesting to see if supporters and opponents think the bill does different things.

Leo T.

I agree with the "favorability ratings of (specific or aggregate) unions" suggestion from Jason, although asking about membership in unions might also make for interesting crosstabs.

Test Levin retirement scenarios:

Peters/Kildee/Bernero vs. Calley/Schuette/Rogers

For 2014 U.S. Senate against Carl Levin, please test against:

Rep. Candice Miller

Rep. Justin Amash

Rep. Mike Rogers

Mark B.

I think everyone would like to see a question on a statutory initiative repealing the so-called right-to-work law newly foisted on Michigan. I would be shocked if the Michigan unions did not attempt to do anything about this law by means of direct democracy.

against Rick Snyder -- former Congressman Mark Schauer.

Generic ballot, Republicans in the State legislature (both houses) vs. Democrats.

UAW -- or Americans For Prosperity.

Hillary Clinton vs. Rick Snyder.

Against Snyder, I would be interested to see Gary Peters, Gretchen Whitmer, Jocelyn Benson, and Mark Schauer (post-pepper spray). Dennis Archer might be an interesting one to include, too, since he flirted with a run briefly last time.

Jay Thompson

Carl Levin (D) vs. Roger Kahn(R)
Carl Levin (D) vs. Rick Snyder (R)
Gretchen Whitmer (D) vs. Rick Snyder (R)
Gary Peters (D) vs. Rick Snyder (R)
Virg Bernero (D) vs. Rick Snyder (R)
Pete Hoekstra (R) vs. Rick Snyder (R)
Mike Cox (R) vs. Rick Snyder (R)

Should Carl Levin retire?
Do you think same-sex marriage should be allowed, or not?
Who would you like to control the State Legislature Democrats or Republicans?
Should Rick Snyder get recalled?

Please ask about gay marriage and if voters are pro choice or pro life.

I've always thought Michigan, with its constitutional initiative rights, its large number of federal House seats, and its harsh GOP gerrymander, would be just the state for Democrats to push for independent redistricting.

Ohio's effort was ill-fated, but independent redistrictng efforts have won at the ballot box before, including in California and Florida in 2010. I would think this sort of effort would be favored to win at the ballot box in most cases. And these off-season polls would be just the time for PPP to test this tempting anti-gerrymandering possibility, if you all are so inclined.

-Ask people if they think Rick Snyder broke his word to the people of Michigan.
-Ask people if they would support a recall of Snyder.
-Ask if people think non-union members at unions shops should get the benefits of union contracts.

You might also test Tim Walberg and Fred Upton for Senate if Levin retires. I could also imagine Gary Peters or Hansen Clarke on the Dem side for that scenario, maybe with Granholm as a curveball. Definitely test Schauer v. Snyder.

Adam MD

Should same-sex marriage be allowed?

Do you approve or disapprove of the way Rick Snyder and the Legislature enacted Right to Work legislation?

Would you support recalls over the RTW issue?

Snyder matchups against Gretchen Whitmer, Mark Schauer, Gary Peters, Virg Bernero.

Snyder primary against AG Bill Schuette.

7th District Congressional primary between Tim Walberg and Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville (who pushed RTW through and has been eyeing the seat).

Levin matchups against the two who have expressed interest: Sen. Roger Kahn and Tea Party activist "Trucker" Randy Bishop.

Paul Wezner

Would love to see a question directed to those who are union members and their thoughts on RTW legislation, and also if they plan on no longer supporting their union with union dues under the new laws.

David M

Are the trees the right height in Michigan? (Yes/No/Unsure)
Should the upper peninsula become part of Wisconsin, become part of Canada, become its own state, or remain part of Michigan? (rotate order)
Should the Ambassador Bridge between Detroit and Windsor, Canada be privately-owned or government-owned? (rotate order)
Should the state of Michigan offer tax credits to filmmakers that film moves in Michigan? (Yes/No/Unsure)

I want to echo support for Schauer vs Snyder question. Also, Whitmer/Peters.

Schauer/Peters matchup against Schuette/Rogers/Kahn for Senate, if Levin retires.

Schuette/Rogers/Kahn vs Levin.

A second for independent redistricting support.

Amanda D.

Regarding Right to work:

If you knew your state legislator voted for the Right to Work bill, a measure that limits the rights of workers, would you be more or less likely to support that legislator?
More likely
Less likely
RTW Does not affect my support
Not sure

Test out Congressman Amash and Congresswoman Candice Miller against Carl Levin for Senator, and if Levin retires use Congressman Sanders as the democrat.

Also for Governor against Snyder use Congressman Sanders and Congrassman Kildee as democratic opponents.

Ask about gay marriage.

Jennifer Granholm vs. Rick Snyder.

Carl Levin vs Terri Lynn Land (former Sec of State)

PPP POLLS BY YEAR: 2006-2017

We came to PPP after a public poll in the San Jose Mayoral race showed our opponent ahead by 8 points. They found our candidate (Sam Liccardo) ahead by 3 points and that allowed us to be able to push back with the press against the perception that our opponent was now a strong favorite in the race. Sam ended up winning by 2 points and is now the next Mayor of San Jose. PPP worked very fast and had a very accurate read on the electorate when we needed them
