Colorado voters love Tim Tebow. They love him even more than John Elway. But they're still happy to have Peyton Manning replace Tebow as the Broncos' Quarterback.
70% of Coloradans have a favorable opinion of Tebow to only 18% with a negative one. That outpaces Elway's 65/19 rating. With Republicans he's at an 85/6 spread that any politician would envy, and he's at a pretty solid 58/25 with Democrats as well.
Despite Tebow's popularity voters in the state still prefer Manning over him as Quarterback by a 53/26 margin. Democrats prefer Manning by 46 points, 60/14, while Republicans do by just a 7 point spread at 44/37. Every group of the electorate prefers Manning over Tebow except for 'very conservative' voters, who go for Tebow 53/28. Sports can be awfully political...
The Broncos are easily Colorado's favorite pro sports team. 40% of voters in the state pick them to 19% for the Rockies, 9% for the Avalanche, and 6% for the Nuggets. Here are some other tidbits from our Colorado sports poll:
-Troy Tulowitzki (58/3) and Todd Helton (55/5) are both popular statewide figures, although neither of them can match Tebow like levels of recognition. Former Rockies star Ubaldo Jimenez, who had a well publicized incident with Tulowitzki in spring training, is now seen positively by only 17% of Colorado voters to 30% who have a negative opinion of him.
-There's no love lost between Colorado sports fans and former Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony either. 44% of voters say the team is better off without him while 39% have no opinion and only 17% think the team would be in a better situation if it still had Anthony.
