Over the next 3 months PPP will be polling the favorability of all 50 states as part of its national surveys, in order to determine the most popular and least popular ones in the country. We started off this month with the first 17. Here's how they stack up from best net favorability to worst:

-There are three states that Republicans have a negative opinion of: Illinois (15/44), Massachusetts (19/47), and Rhode Island (20/22).
-There are eight states that Democrats have a negative opinion of: Arizona (20/38), Mississippi (13/41), Alabama (13/45), Louisiana (20/29), Utah (14/32), Arkansas (20/23), Texas (17/51), and Georgia (19/31). Taken as a whole those numbers suggest that Democratic voters don't particularly like the South.
-6 states were seen favorably by Democrats, Republicans, and independents alike- Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, and Minnesota.
-The most popular state with Democrats is Massachusetts (49/9) while the least popular is Texas. With Republicans the most popular is Texas (66/9), while the least popular is Illinois.
-There are four states that had favorability spreads of -20 or worse with black voters- Mississippi (15/51), Alabama (14/50), Texas (17/44), and Utah (12/34).
-In spite of all the furor over Senate Bill 1070 last year, Hispanic voters nationally actually have a slightly positive opinion of Arizona (31/26).
-The states voters have the strongest opinions about are Texas (71% with an opinion), Massachusetts (62%), and Arizona (61%). The ones they're most ambivalent towards are Idaho (only 41% with an opinion), Rhode Island (42%), and Indiana (43%).
