-If a December caucus is the only way to keep the state first in line Iowa voters are fine with that. 48% support that move if it's necessary to 33% who are opposed and 20% with no opinion. A majority of Republicans would go for the December date (55/29) as would pluralities of independents (47/28) and Democrats (41/39).
-A constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in Iowa would start out with the lead, 50-43. Voters under 65 are about evenly divided on such a proposal, but seniors support it by a 62/29 spread, providing the overall margin in favor of it. Independents would start out voting for it 53/39 and while 24% of Democrats say they would vote for it, only 18% of Republicans say they would vote against it.
41% of Iowans think gay marriage should be legal to 48% who believe it should be illegal, a spread that matches the one for the constitutional amendment. Although voters in the state have an issue with 'marriage' for same sex couples, 67% support some form of legal recognition (37% for marriage, another 30% for civil unions) with only 29% opposed to granting any sorts of rights to gay couples.
-Iowa State may have defeated Iowa on the gridiron this year but in the hearts of Iowans the Hawkeyes have an overwhelming advantage. 51% of voters in the state say they're Iowa fans to only 25% favoring the Cyclones. Every demopgrahic group that we track prefers Iowa.
When it comes to the conference home of the Cyclones voters in the state favor the status quo: 44% would like them to remain in the Big 12 to only 15% who prefer a move to the Big 10. The sentiment that Iowa State should just stay where it is held by both their own fans (57/15) and by fans of the Hawkeyes (52/19).
If it was up to the fans the most imperiled conferences would be sticking together. We've now found that Texans want Texas in the Big 12, Missourians want Missouri in the Big 12, and Iowans want Iowa State in the Big 12. And we've found that folks in Connecticut want UConn in the Big East, and folks in West Virginia want the Mountaineers in the Big East. I don't think fan opinion has much of a role to play here though.
-Iowa's favorite Major League Baseball team is the Chicago Cubs by a large margin. 33% pick the parent team of Des Moines' Iowa Cubs to 11% for the Minnesota Twins, 9% each for the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals, 6% for the Atlanta Braves, 5% for the New York Yankees, and 4% each for the Kansas City Royals and Milwaukee Brewers.
Chicago may reign supreme when it comes to Iowa's baseball preferences but for football you have to look a little further north- the Green Bay Packers are first at 23%, followed by the Chicago Bears at 20%, Minnesota Vikings at 14%, Dallas Cowboys at 7%, Kansas City Chiefs at 6%, Pittsburgh Steelers at 5%, Indianapolis Colts at 3%, and St. Louis Rams at 1%.

62% of Iowa voters, yes. In 2008, it was 56%, according to exit polls, so pretty similar.
